Description
Peony bark, Chinese medicine name. It is the dried root bark of peony in Ranunculaceae family.
The root bark is cylindrical, semi-tubular, with longitudinally split cracks, both sides curled inward, usually 3 to 8 cm long, about 2 mm thick. The Peony bark contains Paeonol, Paeonoside, Paeonolide and Apiopaeonoside. It also contains Paeoniflorin, Oxypaeoniflorin, Benzoyl-paeoniflorin, Benzoyl-oxypaeoniflorin, and Gallic acid, etc. In addition, it also contains volatile oil, phytosterol, benzoic acid, sucrose, glucose and so on.
